Given the current situation impacting sports in different ways, APU will look at it in a “uniquely Powerlifting” way and we will prepare to re-introduce competitions with a dynamic but flexible approach allowing leeway for preparation.
Each theory we present is unique due to differences in each state due to state gov requirements. We will be assessing approaches depending on these independent state restrictions.
We are indeed in a holding pattern however we do feel it is best to provide a direction for our athletes to provide a target for goal setting.
APU will seek to hold State Championships on the weekend of 22 to 23 August 2020.
This decision will be subject to restrictions on indoor sporting centers relaxed by 27 June 2020,
It may be possible to hold the states in a postal style event or split by age groups (sub jrs, jrs, opens and masters) in various locations around state with higher participation.
No qualifying totals will be required by athletes to enter into State Championships.
We will then move into National Championships as per regulation.
If we do not see a lift in indoor sports activities restrictions by June 27, we will review our plan.
For all members and their families of the APU, stay safe and be mindful of the community when it comes to Covid-19.
